Rush Overview

What to Expect

The AKPsi recruitment process is a week-long series of events meant to emulate the recruitment and hiring processes of major companies and to give us the chance to learn more about our candidates in a variety of settings. A typical rush cycle is as follows:

  • Information sessions

  • Networking nights

  • Group interviews

  • Individual interviews

Given the fact that we receive a large number of qualified candidates each quarter, AKPsi’s recruitment week is a tool for our organization to fairly evaluate all candidates in what has historically been an extremely competitive process.

The process is meant to emulate the recruitment and hiring processes of major companies, and gives us the chance to learn more about candidates in a variety of settings.

How to prepare

If you are interested in joining AKPsi, please make sure to note this recruitment cycle’s deadlines and requirements. Be confident and be yourself when going through this process, as we ultimately hope to choose candidates who are not only outstanding academically, but also show a genuine passion for our fraternity and its values. Finally, please know and take into consideration your own schedule and time constraints; rushing and pledging both require significant time and effort.

We are incredibly excited to get to know each and every one of you through the recruitment process. As always, we are honored and humbled by your interest in joining our fraternity and will continue to do our best to serve you, the Northwestern community, and our world.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHY SHOULD I JOIN ALPHA KAPPA PSI?

Alpha Kappa Psi is a national organization—joining gives you access to a global network of business-oriented students and alumni. We provide numerous career development opportunities that will allow you to strengthen your business acumen and better position yourself in the job market. Joining AKPsi, however, is not the same as just joining another business club. We are first and foremost a brotherhood, and with that comes a close bond between each of the brothers as we strive to not only ensure each other’s professional success but also be there for each other as genuine mentors and friends.

DOES ALPHA KAPPA PSI ONLY TAKE BUSINESS MAJORS?

No. Because Northwestern does not offer a formal undergraduate business program, and because we believe that business-minded people can come from any college with any degree, we accept applicants from every school and major. Candidates must have, however, a shared passion for business and a strong drive to succeed in their professional and extracurricular roles.

HOW MUCH OF A TIME COMMITMENT IS ALPHA KAPPA PSI?

Once accepted to pledge the fraternity, pledges will be required to attend a series of events and complete various projects and tasks. Although the process can be rigorous and time consuming, we believe that the 8-week pledge process acts as an opportunity of personal growth, professional development, and network creation for our potential new members. However, once the pledging process is completed and pledges officially become brothers, the time commitment lowers to about an hour each week for chapter meetings alongside fundraising and bonding activities.

In order to pledge AKPsi, please ensure that your Monday and Wednesday evenings are available from 7:00-9:00pm for pledging events. Other events will occur sporadically throughout the weeks and offer more flexibility for attendance.

CAN I RUSH MORE THAN ONCE?

Yes. Many of our current brothers have rushed more than once, and it is not seen as a negative factor if you have. In fact, we offer applicants a chance to rush in both the fall and the spring so that we can give individuals as many chances to join our fraternity as possible.
